Founding Partner

Stephen founded VBM Consulting (VBMC) in 1996 in response to companies’ demands for pragmatic, effective, action-oriented Managing for Value (MFV) consultancy services

Since its founding, VBMC has grown rapidly and is now considered to be amongst the leaders in its segment. This growth is manifested by (1) growing client base in four industry practice areas, (2) expansion from the original London office to locations in New York, Sydney and Cape Town, SA, and (3) thought leadership. He is co-author of two highly-respected MFV books, The Value Mandate and Net Value (‘01).

Stephen has developed a loyal following of corporate leaders by helping to make Managing for Value practical, understandable, relevant and highly effective. It is not enough to merely find the best value answer. That optimal methodology must also lend itself to effective application across the client organisation by that company’s own senior managers.

He has worked with a wide range of leading companies in UK, Europe and North America, including Coca-Cola, The Boots Company, Pearson Group, Boehringer-Ingelheim, WH Smith, BT Group and Adidas-Solomon. Prior to founding VBM Consulting, he was a senior consultant at Marakon Assoc. and Chief UK Economist at the Henley Centre. He has earned MPhil degree in Economics from Cambridge and B Com (Honours) degree (first class) in Economics from the University of Cape Town.
